A Decade of Momentum

10 Years ago today, I graduated as a single mom from college with Jax by my side to become one of the 2% of teen moms to graduate college before age 30. With God, all things are possible! And without Him, there’s no doubt that my situation would be different. I’ve celebrated by making an investment and hope you will too: youcaring.com/themomentumnet

While The MOMentum Network is not yet 3 years old, God has been building MOMentum for a decade. Over the past 10 years, He has continued to grow my village by blessing Jax and I with a husband (and father), 4 more children and a community of friends and colleagues who have helped me overcome poverty, shame, isolation, and many of the other challenges that single moms often carry on their own.

Because of the gifts God has given me–especially the skills that I gained THROUGH the trials of single motherhood in college-an experience that could have by tragic, become an opportunity for God to grow me and my network. I’ve had a thriving career working alongside of some of Chattanooga’s most capable leaders, hardest workers and most generous humanitarians-many of whom have joined me in this next season of life by stewarding their time, talent and resources in this journey that God has allowed me to take part in.

And on this journey, I’ve met some of the most amazing moms. Some have endured far more than I ever imagined. Some of them have given us, but the women that I meet through TMN are determined to keep moving forward because they know that they can either become a statistic and increase the likelihood for their children to do the same, or they can faithfully press on and break through to break cycles for generations to come.

But they can’t do it alone. It takes a village to raise a child and we invite our village to join us in showing Christ’s love to provide hope, help and healing that will create momentum in a single mom’s life that will affect her child(ren), her future family and her (our) community. It’s not just what God wants from us–allowing Him to use us for His glory is what He wants FOR us. I would love to have friends join us in this movement!

‘I will thank you, Lord, among all the people, I will sing your praises among the nations. For your unfailing love is higher than the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens. May your glory shine over all the earth. Now rescue your beloved people. Answer us and save us by your power.” Psalm 108:3-6 (fitting verses from part of today’s reading)
