The Impact of a Life Lived with Love

From the very beginning, Cayleigh Alston was one of The Momentum Network’s biggest supporters.

She volunteered more hours than anyone else, usually behind the scenes. When we didn’t have the funds to hire the help we desperately needed, Cayleigh stepped in. She managed our office, planned events, shared resources, made countless connections, and offered wisdom that shaped both me and this organization.

She told people about Momentum everywhere she went—whether she was connecting a mama who needed support, introducing us to someone who could help, or rallying a crew to show up and serve.

And Cayleigh wasn’t just one of Momentum’s greatest supporters.

She was my sister.

Cayleigh passed away on August 27 at just 37 years old. She was a midwife, a mom of six, and one of the most resourceful and generous people I have ever known.

One of her greatest gifts was building authentic, safe community. Cayleigh had a way of making people feel welcomed and known. She brought people together, connected them to one another, and created spaces where people could simply belong.

Since her death, one of the greatest comforts to our family has been hearing just how many lives she touched in her 37 years. We have heard story after story from people she encouraged, welcomed, helped, connected, or simply made feel seen.

Cayleigh did the same for me.

There were many seasons when I felt overwhelmed by Momentum or questioned whether I had what it took to keep leading it. Cayleigh was often the one who talked me off the ledge, reminded me why the work mattered, and then rolled up her sleeves and helped carry whatever felt too heavy.

That is why the photos from our graduation celebration this year are especially precious now. Cayleigh was there with some of the crew she had rallied around our mission, celebrating moms who had persevered to reach an incredible milestone.

It captures something important about the way she lived:

She showed up.

Her absence has left a tremendous void for us personally, professionally, and practically. There are still so many moments when I think, “Cayleigh would know who to call,” or “I need to ask Cayleigh about this.”

Losing her has also reminded me in a very real way how much the hope of Christ matters—and how much living a life of love matters.

So many things that feel urgent suddenly become very small. What lasts is how we love people. How we welcome them. How we use what God has given us to serve others. How we show up when someone needs us. And whether our lives point people toward hope.

Cayleigh lived that kind of life.

I am heartbroken that she is gone, but incredibly grateful for the 37 years God gave us with her—and deeply encouraged to see how far the impact of one life lived with love can reach.

Her fingerprints are woven throughout The Momentum Network, and they always will be.

Thank you for helping us honor her well.
